An Overview of HTML Strong Tags and Its Utility in SEO

The strong tags in HTML improve interoperability and minimize the development costs. Some of the new tags in HTML are functions for embedding audio, video graphics, client site data storage and interactive documents. Some of the strong tags in HTML define comments, document types, hyperlinks, abbreviations, address elements and articles. For Internet marketers, awareness about HTML codes plays a major role in the success of Internet business. Each HTML document has a title. Titles can also include character entities. Setting this attribute in a link permits user agents to inform browsers about the nature of the linked resource in the header section. Generally authors use this element to identify the document content. So instead of using a vague term as “Introduction” in the title, it would be better if authors provided the contextual background of the topic in the title.


HTML document allows authors to specify Meta Data. A common utility of Meta Element is to specify keywords that search engines use to improve the quality of search results. Meta Tags are information / details inserted in the headlines of the web pages.  Meta Tags inform a browser the type of “character set” to utilize or whether a website has self rated itself. The two types of Meta Tags are placed between the “opening” and “closing” Head Tags. The HTML Title Tag is not exactly a Meta Tag but it is correlated with Meta Tag since whatever text is placed in the “title tag” appears in the reverse bar of a browser when viewing the web page. Few browsers put additional information in the Title Tag. For search engines the Title Tag plays a crucial role as the text incorporated in the Tag is the most important factor which determines how search engine decides to rank the web page.


The Meta Description Tag provides the web owner the tool to influence the description of the page in the crawler that supports the Tag. The initial segment of any page description comes from the Meta Description Tags. It is believed that it would be worthwhile to use Meta Description Tag for pages as it gives a certain degree of control over various crawlers. The Meta Keywords Tag provides additional text for crawler based search engines and is useful in reinforcing the terms that the browser may think important. It also boosts the web page ranking and is beneficial as it reveals synonyms or unusual words that do not appear in the web page content. At times, web users search for a single item but use different search terms. In such cases, mentioning the search term separately in Meta Keyword Tag guarantees that the website ranks better and is identified by the searcher.
