Everyone loves the Progressive commercials with Flo the Progressive Girl.  She wears heavy makeup and sports a retro hairstyle.  The witty insurance salesperson has appeared in over 53 commercials since she made her debut in 2008.  Her persona is upbeat and incredibly enthusiastic when it comes to helping customers pick out the best insurance policy.

In one of the commercials, the customers love Flo so much that the company creates a robot replica of Flo.  They named her FloBot.  And while the customers love the robot just as much and the robot gets the same job done, Flo, the real Flo, is jealous.  She “accidentally” removes the only thing keeping FloBot alive: her battery.

While the situation is made comical for Flo, the same comical situation that happened to Flo is happening to many jobs.  Jobs that were once done manually are being taken over by machines, programs, and other automatic devices.  Automatic machines just seem to produce more merchandise than a person can do by hand.

But when machines are used, personality and individuality is lost.  As shown by the Progressive commercial, FloBot does exactly what Flo does, but the voice is flat and robotic.  There is no inflection or tone at all, starkly contrasting the upbeat, charming, human version of Flo.  Machines take away any warmth, which is a huge turn off for most consumers.

Every company wants to become faster and more efficient to compete with other companies, making it tempting for them to replace humans with machines.  The same is happening with search engine optimization los angeles. 

Search engine optimization, or SEO, is an internet marketing strategy that many businesses partake in to get their websites noticed by search engines such as Google or Bing.  With this service in high demand as the internet becomes a more marketable place, software programs are being made to erase the need for humans to take care of SEO.  But just like FloBot taking Flo’s job, these software programs are taking jobs away from search engine optimization firms los angeles. 

While these programs can effectively create the links required to do SEO, the programs do not think about what exactly it is that they are linking.  They can create a lot of links, but without a human thinking about how many links are too much, it can be too overwhelming for a site.

Flo shows businesses that sometimes machines do not give the entire package.  Humans can still complete the job better than a machine would.
